My first update on DREAM Savings Account:

 

As I’ve announced last week, I’ve decided to open up a savings account specifically for saving money towards them silly dreams of mine. The idea behind it is to remove guilt from spending money on them knowing it’s extra money, and has nothing to do with our work income and it’s not being borrowed.

Rules are simple - no borrowing money because borrowing money is dumb. Only extra income I score on the side counts towards this account or if I happen to sell something unnecessary.  List of dreams and goals can be viewed in its entirety here.

 

Deposits:

 

$450.00 - Tangerine sign-up bonuses. This was accumulated over last couple of months, thank you to those who signed up with Tangerine through me! We all know Tangerine is the best place to open your savings or checking account! 🙂

 

$283.59 - side hustle income!

 

I’ve placed an ad on the local Craigslist page hoping to score some income through doing various gigs. I’ve figured if I can make a couple of dollars in few hours instead of watching Kitchen Nightmares re-runs on Netflix, it would be a good use of my time on Saturday and also contribute to my DREAM savings account (remember, only side income counts!)

So, a local couple who just moved into a new house responded to an ad and emailed me asking if I can help them demolish their hot tub because it doesn’t work anymore and it’s hard to get rid of. Their solution was to hire somebody to demolish it so they can later call Waste Management and have a refuse bin dropped off in their driveway.

I’ve never had to do it before, so after watching some Youtube videos, I’ve agreed to do the job. After we’ve worked out the budget ($300), I showed up at their place ready to do some heavy-duty demolition!

 

Here’s what I was up against:

 

 

As far as tools go, I had a crowbar, sledge hammer, and a sawzall at my disposal. Judging by what I’ve read on Internet, I thought it was quite reasonable. After some careful planning and stretches, I went to work, and in about an hour it was done. Hot tub was cut into smaller pieced that can easily be carried:

 

 

Overall, it was much easier than I’ve imagined it will be. It was also extremely fun for me! Swinging sledge hammer and singing at the same time, I’ve plowed through it fairly quickly. The couple was very happy about the whole thing, I’ve made  283.59 after some expenses, and overall I felt like I did some good that Saturday! Between everything, it took me around 2.5 hours which means I got paid over $100/hour to swing a sledge hammer and lose few calories. Not bad!
